About This School |
|
Aileen Colburn is a K-6 school serving approximately 435 students. Aileen Colburn is a non-busing school and maintains a warm community climate. In addition to our 20 regular education classrooms, we maintain the Cougar Learning Center which provides support for full inclusion of special education students into the regular education classrooms. The Learning Center also provides low-performing students with in-class instruction, small group instruction, individual and/or group pull-out as needed based on an individual student by student needs assessment in the areas of Reading and/or Math. The special education teacher, resource teacher and speech teacher work with all students including students not already identified as eligible for special education or speech services. REACH, Language!, Rewards, and Accelerated Math are used help students improve in Reading and Math. In addition, specialists share expertise, including sharing of students on various caseloads, providing materials, and assisting with modifications and accommodations for all children by collaborating with all classroom teachers around curriculum-embedded assessments and individual student needs. Special Day Class support is a flexible model of shared resources, both materials and personnel. A full continuum of support services are provided by specialists for not less that 51% of the day, including collaboration, co-teaching, in-class instruction within the general education classroom with individual and/or group pull-out in the Learning Center. |
