School Board

      John Hundley, Member

In 2005, after teaching Language Arts to 8th Graders for 16 years, John Hundley accepted a faculty position in the Writing Program at UC Merced and a seat on the Atwater Elementary School District School Board.  He brings to the school board experience as a teacher of students and as a co-director of the UC Merced Writing Project, a teacher-centered professional development organization dedicated to improving the teaching of writing in public education, K-college.  He holds single-subject credentials in English/Language Arts and History/Social Science.  Accordingly, his knowledge base and interests focus on topics close to the classroom:  curriculum design, testing and accountability, and teaching methodology.

John’s wife teaches at Merced College, and his daughter attends public school in Atwater.

John is both proud of and humbled by his role as trustee for the Atwater Elementary School District.  He takes his responsibility seriously, knowing that the diverse community he represents expects him to listen, learn, ask questions, and offer perspectives in order to make informed, prudent decisions at board meetings.  Constructive dialogue and open discussions, while difficult, are vital if we are to succeed in meeting the needs of today’s students in modern public schools.  John looks forward to the challenge.
