Welcome to the Atwater Elementary School District Transportation Department's website. Our most important asset is our children, whose safety and well being will always remain our top priority. We work collaboratively with staff and parents to ensure we are a productive extension of the classroom. We hope you enjoy your visit with us. Please feel free to browse our web site.
SCHOOL BUS SAFETY FOR MOTORISTS

PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND BE PREPARED TO STOP WHEN YOU SEE THE
AMBER LIGHTS FLASHING. OUR CHILDREN ARE TOO PRECIOUS TO RISK!

ALL VEHICLES MUST STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS WITH ITS
RED WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING.

How are drivers required to use the warning lights?
The drivers are required to activate their amber warning lights 200 feet before stopping at a bus stop, then, regardless of the traffic they will immediately activate the red warning lights.

HOW MOTORISTS CAN KEEP KIDS SAFE AROUND THE SCHOOL BUS:
⇒ When driving in neighborhoods with bus stops and school zones, watch out for children walking or bicycling to school.
⇒ Slow down! Look for children walking in the street, especially if there are no sidewalks in the neighborhood.
⇒ Remember, children do not easily estimate vehicle speeds and may misjudge when crossing the street. ⇒ Learn and obey the school bus laws. Obey the “flashing light system”

Amber flashing lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop and unload children. Motorists should slow down and prepare to stop their vehicles!

Red flashing lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. Motorists must stop their cars and wait until the lights stop flashing and the stop sign is withdrawn before they can start driving again.
